This morning around 2:00 AM, while driving home with Mikie from an Independence Day gathering located only 10 blocks from our house, I collided with a 20 year old male bicyclist at the intersection of 24th and 124th. I was driving on 24th around 25 mph, when a sudden impact shattered the windshield of the Corolla, nearly obliterating completely into penetrating shards of glass. Mikie had no idea what was going on (he mentioned that he thought it was fireworks), but I knew instantly the we had hit someone.

I stopped the car as soon as I could react and ran outside to find a body lying across the pavement, with a small puddle of blood pooling near the head. My first thought was that the guy was dead, that the blood was coming from his cranium, that I was responsible. I didn't know what to do except stay at the scene and tell Mikie to call 911. Then I heard him sobbing, which made me both relieved and frightened. A car passing by stopped and a group of young adults emerged to see what was happening. Two girls came over to help the bicyclist, who was now sitting upright, and kept me calm with their encouraging words.

*Before I continue, I NEED to thank these girls with all my heart for being such upstanding and compassionate people. I don't know if I would have been in such a rational state of mind when the police arrived if it were not for them.*

By the time the police lights were visible and headed towards our direction, the guy had gotten up and walked over to sit on the curb. It turns out that he was only bleeding from his nose/mouth and he told us that only his wrist was in pain, but he was obviously in no position to give us an accurate report due to shock. Soon after the first officer arrived, a medical van and firemen followed. The paramedics checked up on both parties and proceeded to administer tests on the bicyclist.

After having some time to digest the events that had occurred, I was composed enough to analyze the scene and articulate what had happened from my perspective. After collecting statement, as well as Mikie's and the bicyclist's, and looking over the scene of the accident, this was the unofficial police summary:

1)The bicyclist was going down a very steep hill and he disregarded the stop sign that he was obligated to obey. This caused him to collide with our vehicle from the passenger side, and the impact tossed him up onto our windshield and then to the pavement.

2)The bicyclist did not have a front light visible from 500 feet on his bike, which is required by WA state law for nighttime riders.

3)To make matters worse, he was not wearing a helmet at the time (Required in King county for all ages) and was possibly intoxicated (under-aged drinking).

Basically, they said verbatim that the biker was at fault. I did not have any reasonable fault, as I did not violate any laws, did not flee the scene of the accident, and did not have any harmful intent or affordable knowledge of the collision prior to its occurrence.

It has been less than 24 hours later, but the health of the bicyclist has been confirmed as normal, which is a relief to hear. However, the aftermath of this experience has damaged me beyond belief. Apart from the physical impairments my car endured (see below),

I feel an unbelievable amount of emotional distress that has caused me to withdraw from my prior engagements this weekend and has distracted me from my studies. I have a midterm on Monday and one on Tuesday, so this just heightens my sense of stress, anger, and isolation.

Everyone keeps telling me that I have dealt with this situation in an ideal manner, but I feel so psychologically boggled. I think a major "flaw", for lack of a better word, in my personality is that I hate not having the power to control a situation. That is why I am so irked that I did nothing unreasonable to cause this mess, yet I have to deal with all of the consequences. Am I morally bankrupt to have little to no pity for this guy? Am I ridiculously naive to feel so violated for being thrown into a situation that was so unnecessary and uncontrollable on my part?

To make matters worse, I am going to have to file a suit against this guy in small claims court if the insurance company cannot file an uninsured property claim for me. I wish this was all a bad dream, but it happened and now I am trying my best to address the situation. I don't know what is going to become of all of this... I just don't know.

I'm convinced....

Until very recently, I had been perfectly content with being a homebody and doing nothing but going to school and engaging in matronly activities. Anyhow, my sudden and relatively drastic change in interests is creeping me out.

Dallas:
-Discovered Baba's PRADA phone
-Kicked out of night club for not having a 21 up bracelet at the bar, refused re-entry by outside bouncer, let into side door for free by inside bouncer
-Drove drunkies from club to home, Mikie and Thomas vomit on both sides of Vy's new Lexus Infinti
-Got engaged and unengaged to family friend
-Watched Ocean's 11 at full serve restaurant theater
-Overall: Spent 40% of trip shopping, 35% eating out, 15% playing with baby Kate, 10% Sleeping/staying at home

Boston:
-Sight touring in Boston, saw stereotypical characters in Little Italy
-Tour of Harvard with Jeremy, Cindy and I got attacked by Squirrels, Jeremy got attacked by a homeless older female and her crutches
-Killed Cindy/Jeremy/Lucas at Kemps
-Visited Salem, met witches, watched a live spell casting with Lady Steel
-Went Canoing, chased down speed boats
-Ate at Finale!!! (A restaurant devoted mainly to high-end desserts)
-Went to the best shopping outlet ever, got stuck in traffic on the way back and almost missed flight home

I am giving serious thought to optometry school, but it will take me 1 year to complete science and math prereqs and if I get accepted to the school in Oregon, it will take 4 more years to get a Doctorate. This would also mean turning down the job from Target and being income-less for 5 more years.Mom said go for it, but step-dad thinks it's a dumb idea (he doesn't think I can/will do it). Isn't that terrible? Anyhow, I will speak to my adviser Wednesday.

I am sitting in the lobby of the recreation center awaiting the final episode of Gilmore Girls, set to air in T-minus 21 minutes. I am extremely disappointed that the show will not continue on to its eighth season, but I understand that it is time for Lauren and Alexis to move on to bigger and "better" things. This is unfortunate because now I have little reason to use the elliptical machines. I guess I will continue on for health's sake, but I will not be jogging with the same vigor as I did while watching quality television.

So I have officially received my first job offer for the post-college era. It is an executive team leader/human resources position for Target, with a $45,000 starting salary. I don't know much about starting salaries, but it sounds on the decent side to me. Much better than making negative dollars, which is what I'm currently netting in school. I have until after graduation (August) to decide if I'll take the job or not. From what I've seen I really like the environment there and the people are really laid back and good looking. I'll be sure to keep my two readers updated on this issue.

Oh, and I just got my grades for last quarter: A, A, A-, A-. Pretty good for a 19 credit quarter. The best and most surprising part about doing well is knowing that it's intrinsically rewarding, seeing as how there is pretty much no extrinsic motivation for me since I don't plan on doing graduate school for a while. I never knew I was so unshallow. Feels swell.

Winter quarter flew by. I have one last final today at 3:30. I am not prepared... Somehow I think that reporting this on livejournal will aid me better than studying. My roommate Jake has moved out and my co-worker form over the summer is going to move in. I do not benefit in anyway from this arangement, I just thought I'd be a saint and save Jake some money rather than having a two-bedroom apartment all to myself for the same low price. Oh, the things I could have done in that room... indoor garden, art studio, meth lab...

This is my future roommate.

Highlights of the past week include winning this trophy for best dessert at the ESC cook-off.

I also went back to WSU and saw my old roommate. I love Pullman. And I still love the Cougs even though they ruined my March Madness bracket.

I also just found out that I only missed 2 out of 65 questions on my Sensation & Perception final. Totally awesome.

On a shameful note, I could have won $50 for the VSA club by naming foods that start with "T" and I could only name 11 of them in 3 minutes!!!! And 8 of them started with the word "tomato"!!! I couldn't think under the pressure, I am so ashamed of myself.

So embarassing...

Alright I should probably skim some notes before my final. There is a 90% chance that I will be looking at recipes in 10 minutes...

Earlier this evening, a man knocked on my apartment door wearing a Fed-Ex jacket and hat, so naturally I assumed that he worked for Fed-Ex. I opened the door and I got creepy vibes from him from the get-go. He said that he was with a family owned auto-shop and he said that they were having a special on check-ups and oil changes.

So I thought to myself, " Mikie and I DO need to get our van checked", and I asked him for a business card. He replies with this answer, " I actually can't give you a business card, but I can give you a sales pitch. the only catch is that I you get me a glass of water when I'm done".

By this time, I'm just thinking " Holy crap, I'm going to die. Jake is still at school, and nobody will hear me scream if this guy gets inside". So I slowly closed the door behind me so that he couldn't get into our house and so that we would both be in the open, and I told him that he was making me uncomfortable and that I don't think we would be requiring his services. He then tried to legitimize himself by "knocking" on my neighbors door with the same amount of force that would be exerted by an infant. He told me that "he's talked to everyone in this complex, so they all know my face". Eff that dude, you are creepy and lying!!!

So I told him that he should probably go because we wouldn't be interested if he couldn't provide a business card OR phone number. He said alright and jokingly said " Well that was a sales pitch gone wrong". Eff you biotch!!! As soon as he was far enough for me to shut the door safely, I slammed that bitch and dead bolted the crap out of it. I called 911 and reported a suspicious person. I'm so scared right now and Jake is out playing poker! If I die anytime soon, which seems very possible, I want my family to know that I love them, and all of my possessions go to Donny!!!

I'm so fearful!!!!!!!!! But Aaron is making me feel better, so yeah.

Is Friday the 13th a Holiday? I hope so.

Okay, so over the past six years, I've had my inclinations about Chef Emeril Lagasse's supreme stupidity, but seriously dudes.... So he's making a Chocolate Sheba cake, and he starts by beating some heavy cream to medium peaks. Then, being the fat dumb-butt bastard that he is, he starts beating egg whites with the same beaters. Somehow, this man who supposedly went to culinary school, owns half a dozen restaurants, and hosts two cooking shows, doesn't know that even the slightest droplet of fat would make it chemically impossible for egg whites to stiffen. He's whippin' away for like three minutes, and he just keeps making moronic jokes, and after ten minutes of being retarded, he decides to blame the kitchen staff for giving him a dirty bowl. Hmmmm... I can't believe I watched a whole episode and then took the time to blog about it.

So earlier this week I went to Japan. It was pretty amazing and stuff. Yeah I'll post pictures someday, they are pretty crappy on account of being processed from a generic brand disposable camera.

The real headliner for this week is "Monkey Bones". Like who on earth has seen/recalled that movie?

Anyway, we [Mikie, Donny, and I] are sitting in our living room and Mikie sees the name Brendan Fraser on the back of Donny's shirt.

He's like, " Whoah, there is a kid named Brendan Fraser in your class?"
And Donny's like, " Who is Brendan Fraser?"
To which Mikie replies, " You know...the dude from Monkey Bones."

Not "the dude from George of the Jungle"...not "the dude from The Mummy or The Mummy Returns"... Not even "the dude from Encino Man"... but "the dude from Monkey Bones."

We are still laughing about it.
